Does anyone miss Nestle Milo like me?
Why did Nestle stop Milo in India?
The popular health drink of the 90’s , caught my attention yet again during a recent visit to a gourmet store. Something in me prompted me to buy it again just to relish the taste of Milo which I cherished during childhood. How can I forget the memorable tasting sessions at my school and the endless free goodies I collected with each purchase of Milo. From Atlas to Cricket and Tennis balls, I remember all the complimentary gifts I got from it. On every visit to the grocery store, I made sure that I put the Milo packet in the shopping basket and prompt the shop keeper to deliver the complimentary goodies at the billing counter. The rave television advertisements amidst cartoons and the much anticipated tasting sessions at schools made it all the more popular. Somehow the competition became quite tough and the market had neither any dearth for health drinks ranging from Boost, Bournvita, Complan and Horlicks to name a few… Milo could not keep up with the competitive prices of its counterparts and soon it got tagged as an expensive health drink and finally vanished from the Indian market.
Fast forward to today, still I see few packets at Gourmet stores and few grocery stores which are mostly imported from Singapore and Malaysia. On one of my vacation trip to Malaysia, I spotted it at every nook and corner of grocery stores , literally everywhere. I ended up buying the small tetra packs of Milo and stacked them in hotel room refrigerator just to relish taste unlimitedly. Though the taste was nowhere near to what I witnessed years ago, it was indeed a nostalgic feat to my memoirs.
Few of the complimentary gifts of Milo from my collection
So few days back I ended up buying Milo at a gourmet store just like that as I said in the beginning. I haven’t open it yet , but my childhood memories flushed through my mind and made me vent over the disappearance of my favourite health drink as a child.
